Questions about Fill PDF Forms

How do I know if a PDF is actually fillable?
A real fillable PDF contains interactive form fields that can receive focus independently of the page artwork. PDF Atelier should detect these fields automatically. If none are found, it should offer Add Text/Edit PDF instead of forcing a broken form experience.
Which PDF form fields can I complete?
The initial tool should support standard AcroForm text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and list fields where the underlying PDF library handles them reliably. Unsupported field types should be identified rather than silently ignored.
Can I use the Tab key to move through fields?
Yes. Keyboard navigation is part of the acceptance criteria. Tab order should follow the PDF form order when it is defined and fall back to a sensible visual order when possible.
What is the difference between keeping fields editable and flattening them?
Keeping fields editable preserves interactive controls so the values can still be changed later. Flattening converts the filled appearance into fixed page content so the exported copy behaves more like a finalized document.
Can I fill a scanned form that has no fields?
Yes, but not through AcroForm controls. Use Add Text or Edit PDF to position text over the visible blanks, then use Sign PDF if required. PDF Atelier should route you there automatically when it detects no interactive fields.
Can I fill and sign the same PDF?
Yes. Form completion and visual signature placement should work in one session. The Sign tool remains conceptually separate so users understand that a drawn/typed signature is not a certificate-based digital signature.
What are XFA forms and why might they not work?
XFA is a different, often dynamic form technology used in some older enterprise/government PDFs. Browser PDF libraries do not consistently support it. PDF Atelier should detect likely XFA documents and explain that standard form filling may not be available.
Are the values I type into a form stored by PDF Atelier?
For local form filling, values remain in the active browser session and exported PDF. They must not be sent to analytics or stored in cloud workflow definitions. Any optional reusable local autofill profile should be explicit and easy to clear.
