Questions about Unlock PDF

Can PDF Atelier remove a PDF password if I do not know it?
No. Unlock PDF is for documents where you know the valid password or otherwise have legitimate authorization. It does not crack, guess or recover unknown passwords.
What happens to the password I enter?
In the local workflow, the password is used in memory to decrypt the file. It must not be written to analytics, logs, crash reports, cloud storage or saved workflow definitions.
Will the exported PDF open without a password?
That is the expected result when “Remove password from exported copy” is selected. PDF Atelier should verify this by reopening the generated file without the original password before presenting the export as successful.
What is the difference between an open password and PDF permissions?
An open/user password blocks access to the document until the correct password is entered. Owner/permission settings can request restrictions on actions such as printing, copying or modification. They are related security mechanisms but not identical.
Can I unlock a PDF and then protect it with a different password?
Yes. The ideal local workflow is Unlock -> edit/organize if needed -> Protect PDF with a new password, without forcing you to download and re-open between steps.
Does unlocking a PDF remove a digital signature?
Encryption and digital signatures are different. Decrypting or otherwise rewriting a PDF can affect a cryptographic signature depending on the document and operation. PDF Atelier should warn when signature indicators are detected rather than promising signature validity.
Is the protected PDF uploaded to a server?
When Unlock PDF is marked Local, the encrypted file and password are handled in the browser by the local security engine. No document bytes or password should be sent to a remote processing service.
Why can an unlocked PDF still refuse some edits?
The file may contain other structures, certification rules, unusual encryption or reader-specific restrictions. Unlock removes the supported password/encryption layer; it does not guarantee that every PDF feature becomes editable.
