Questions about Extract Images from PDF
- What is the difference between Extract Images and PDF to JPG?
- Extract Images looks for raster image objects stored inside the PDF and tries to save those objects. PDF to JPG renders each entire page - including text, vectors and all images - into a new page screenshot.
- Will extracted images keep their original quality?
- When the PDF stores a directly reusable encoded image such as JPEG, PDF Atelier should preserve that original data rather than recompressing it. Some encodings or masks require conversion, which should be disclosed.
- Why does a PDF show an image that the extractor cannot save as one file?
- The visible artwork may be vector graphics, a composition of multiple image tiles, an image plus mask, or content drawn procedurally. Not everything that looks like one image on screen exists as one standalone raster object.
- Can I extract only images from selected pages?
- Yes. Page scope and individual image selection make large documents manageable and prevent unnecessary ZIP output.
- Can I convert extracted images to PNG or JPG?
- Yes as an explicit option. The default should prefer original encoded data when that is technically reliable; conversion should happen only when you choose a new format or the source encoding cannot be exported directly.
- Can PDF Atelier extract vector logos as SVG?
- Not in the initial raster-image extractor. Vector extraction is materially different and can involve complex clipping, fonts and drawing instructions. The UI should not promise SVG extraction unless a dedicated engine is implemented.
- Are extracted images uploaded anywhere?
- For a Local implementation, PDF parsing, image extraction and ZIP creation occur in the browser. Image bytes and page contents must not be sent to a remote service.
- Why are some extracted images CMYK or unusual formats?
- PDF supports image color spaces and codecs designed for print/document workflows, including formats browsers do not normally display directly. PDF Atelier should either convert them through a tested path or mark them unsupported rather than output corrupt files.
