Extraction is ideal when a long document contains just a few pages that need to be shared, submitted or archived separately. Users should be able to click thumbnails, enter page ranges, reorder the extracted selection and see the final page count before export.

The source document remains intact. This matters because extracting pages is a copy operation, not a destructive removal. The UI should reinforce that distinction and offer a separate “remove these pages from the original working copy” action only when that is actually what the user wants.

  • Bookmarks that target removed pages are dropped

Questions about Extract PDF Pages

How do I save one page from a PDF as a new PDF?
Open the source PDF, select the page thumbnail, choose Extract and export the new one-page PDF. The original file remains unchanged on your device.
Can I extract several pages that are not next to each other?
Yes. Select any combination of individual pages or ranges. The output should follow the selection order shown in the workspace, and users should be able to reorder the selection before export.
What is the difference between extracting and deleting pages?
Extraction creates a new PDF from the pages you selected and leaves the source untouched. Deleting pages creates a new version of the working document without the selected pages. They are opposite actions and should not share ambiguous button labels.
Does extracting pages reduce their quality?
No. The selected PDF pages should be copied at page level rather than converted to images, so text, vectors and image quality remain intact unless a separate compression step is requested.
Will bookmarks and links still work in the extracted PDF?
Links that point within extracted pages can often remain valid, while links or bookmarks targeting pages that were not included need to be removed or adjusted. The exporter should avoid leaving broken destinations in the new file.
Can I extract pages from a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you provide the correct password needed to open the file and the document permissions allow the operation. PDF Atelier must not bypass encryption or access controls.
Can I extract pages and then merge them with another PDF?
Yes. After extraction, the result should remain available in the local session so you can choose Merge with another PDF without downloading and re-uploading the intermediate file.
