For scanned bundles, applications and long reports, visual thumbnails are more useful than forcing users to type ranges from memory. Range syntax such as 1-3, 5, 8-12 can remain available for speed, but it should validate mistakes immediately and explain exactly how many files will be created.

Questions about Split PDF

What is the difference between Split PDF and Extract PDF Pages?
Split PDF is for turning one document into several output files or defined page ranges. Extract PDF Pages is for selecting pages and creating one new PDF from that selection. Keeping these tasks separate makes the output predictable and avoids forcing users to understand technical PDF terminology.
Can I split a PDF by page range?
Yes. The tool should support ranges such as 1-3, 5-7 and 12-18, with a visual preview of each output group. Invalid or overlapping ranges should be flagged before processing rather than silently producing unexpected files.
Can I split every page into a separate PDF?
Yes. “One file per page” should be a dedicated mode because it is common for scanned forms, certificates and document packets. When many files are created, PDF Atelier should package them in a clearly named ZIP and preserve page order in the filenames.
Can I split a PDF by file size, for example into files under 10 MB?
This can be offered as an advanced mode, but it behaves differently from page-range splitting because final file size depends on the content of each page. The interface should state that the size target is approximate and may need compression to keep every output below a strict upload limit.
Will splitting change or delete the original PDF?
No. Splitting creates new output files. The original file selected from your device remains unchanged unless you separately overwrite it yourself outside PDF Atelier.
What happens to bookmarks and form fields after splitting?
Page content can be copied into the new files, but bookmarks, named destinations and forms may reference pages or objects that are no longer present. PDF Atelier should retain valid structures when possible and remove or repair references that would otherwise point to missing pages.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Only after you provide a password that legitimately opens the document. The password should be handled locally and only for the active session. PDF Atelier must not bypass encryption or claim to unlock files without authorization.
