Questions about PDF to PNG

What is the difference between PDF to PNG and PDF to JPG?
PNG uses lossless compression and is often better for text, diagrams, screenshots and graphics with hard edges. JPG usually creates smaller files for photographic pages but introduces lossy compression. Choose based on how the images will be used.
Does PDF to PNG create one image per page?
Yes. Each selected PDF page becomes its own PNG. For multi-page conversions, PDF Atelier should offer a ZIP with filenames that preserve page order.
Can I choose the PNG resolution or DPI?
Yes. The tool should expose a simple quality scale and an advanced DPI/output-scale control. The preview should show estimated pixel dimensions so users understand the trade-off between sharpness, memory and file size.
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
A rendered PDF page normally includes its page background and should not be assumed to become transparent. Transparency may be possible for specific PDF content, but the default export should prioritize rendering the page as viewers display it.
Will text remain selectable in PNG?
No. PNG is an image format, so text becomes pixels. Keep the file as PDF if text search or selection is required.
Can I convert only selected pages?
Yes. Select a single page, ranges or non-consecutive pages before rendering. This reduces processing time and prevents unnecessary image files.
Why can high-quality PNG conversion use a lot of memory?
Rendering a PDF page at high resolution creates a large pixel buffer. A long document multiplied by high DPI can exceed browser memory quickly. PDF Atelier should render and release one page at a time and warn before unusually expensive settings.
