Questions about Edit PDF Metadata
- Which PDF metadata fields can I edit?
- The initial tool should support common fields such as Title, Author, Subject and Keywords. Creator, Producer and creation/modification dates require a clear policy because they may describe the software/process that generated the file.
- What is the difference between PDF Info metadata and XMP metadata?
- PDFs can store common properties in more than one metadata structure. A robust editor should define how it reads, updates and synchronizes those values so a title is not changed in one place but left stale in another.
- Does changing metadata alter anything visible on the PDF pages?
- It should not. The page content remains unchanged; only document-level properties are updated. PDF Atelier should verify this with output tests.
- Can I remove metadata instead of editing it?
- Yes. Use Remove PDF Metadata when the goal is deletion. Use Sanitize PDF when you also need to inspect comments, attachments, actions, form values or other hidden structures.
- Can I change the PDF creation date?
- The UI may allow controlled date editing where the engine supports it, but it should explain that metadata dates are document properties and are not trustworthy proof of when a real-world document was created.
- Why does another PDF viewer show different metadata after I edit it?
- Different viewers can prioritize Info or XMP values differently. PDF Atelier should keep its supported fields synchronized and reparse the output, but third-party software may display additional proprietary properties.
- Can I edit metadata for many PDFs at once?
- Pass/Plus can support Batch rules such as set Author, clear Subject or add a keyword to all files. Batch must show a preview and never copy one file’s unrelated metadata into another accidentally.
- Is metadata processed locally?
- For the Local tool, metadata parsing and rewriting happen in the browser. Filenames and metadata values must not be sent to analytics or stored in cloud workflows unless the user explicitly enters non-sensitive rule values.
